Are You A Follower?

I’m joining with the #FiveMinuteFriday group of writers to write for five minutes on a one word prompt. This weeks word prompt is: Follow

As soon as I read this weeks word prompt, the song “I Will Follow Him” by Peggy March went through my mind:

I love him, I love him, I love him,

And where he goes I’ll follow, I’ll follow, I’ll follow,

He’ll always be by true love, my true love, my true love,

From now until forever, forever, forever

Pondering on these lyrics, I began to ask myself if I would follow Jesus wherever He would lead me. Am I in love with Him to the point of leaving all behind and following Him? Can I, like Ruth say, “Where you go I’ll go, where you stay, I’ll stay?”

Matthew 16:24 says:

24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

He says deny myself. But what does that truly mean? Being in ministry, I have had to let go of a lot of my desires and follow my husband to the church God was leading us to. I had to leave family and everything that was familiar to me to go to unknown cities. It would never fail that as soon as I had my home and gardens the way I loved, God would call us to another city to begin all over again.

It wasn’t always easy leaving behind family and friends, but we had to follow God’s plan for our lives. There had to be a sacrifice on our part to follow God and do His will. Sometimes the cost was greater than other times, but we have been blessed by our faithfulness.

John 12:26 says:

26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

I pray that you will find joy in today by following Jesus and His will for your life.

  1. Beautiful thoughts! Thank you for sharing. I am acquainted with moving around a lot as well. I think I need to remember that it is following Him when we do so. A new move is coming up soon, I think, so this was a good post to get me ready! Blessings to you.

  2. The best way I can follow Him
is not, these days, to seek an answer
as to why’s the outlook grim,
and why must I face this cancer,
for the asking shows a doubt
    in His mercy and His grace;
it is not for me to pout,
but, instead, must be my place
to do what He has bidden me
(such as the writing of these rhymes),
that there might come a victory
    even through harsh, scary times,
built here in the present tense
    on faith, and my obedience.
