I just finished reading a book entitled, “God’s At War: Defeating the Idols That Battle for Your Heart,” by Kyle Idleman, and he talks bout God’s pursuing love for each of us. He says that, “This is a God who, when turned down, ignored, rejected-even violently, even blasphemously-finds a new way to express His love and issue the invitation. This is a God who has never given up on winning your heart.”
Those are powerful words. He is a God that in spite of all my weaknesses, in spite of all my fears, in spite of all of my sin, still pursues me and wants a relationship with me. This love is so hard to comprehend. And yet, there are times in my life when I have doubted His love for me. It’s hard to believe that God loves you when your whole world seems to be falling apart. I think as humans we are so programmed with the secular view of love that our minds become warped with carnal thinking and believing instead of Godly thinking and believing. God’s love is not like human love where we love someone today and hate them the next. His love is a love that we can not even begin to comprehend.
He loves us so much that He gave His only son to die in our place. Jesus hung on that cross beaten and bleeding while thinking about each and every one of us. His love kept him on the cross. Can we even fathom a love as deep as His?
Many times we will take the pain and hurt we receive in our relationships and correlate them with God’s love. Without knowing it, we assume God’s love is just like the ones who have hurt us. The hurt and pain we experience in our earthly relationships is carried over to how we relate with our relationship to God. We need to realize that as humans our love is going to fail and not meet someones need. So often I look to my husband to meet my every need, only for it to end up in disappointment when he falls short of my expectations. God never falls short of our expectations. Only He can meet our every need. His love is perfect and not lacking in any area. He loves us so much that Isaiah 49:16 says:
“See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.”
We are inscribed on God’s very own hand. He will never forget us. During the times when it feels like God doesn’t care, we need to take heart and remember that He literally has us in the palm of His hand. He is always watching over us and looking out for our best interest. Zephaniah 3:17 says:
God rejoices over us with singing! Isn’t that exciting! It is so encouraging to know that we are being pursued relentlessly by a God who has an all-consuming love for each and every one of us. If we could grasp this love, many of our fears and worries would be erased because there would be know reason to fear because perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18)
For you who are doubting God’s love, call out to Him. I have been in your shoes many times and it is painful. It hurts when you feel forsaken by God. Even Jesus felt that way when He died on the cross. You are not alone. Begin to allow yourself to receive God’s love. There will come a time in your life when you have nothing left to do BUT receive the love of the Father. Call out to Him because He hears you. He is right by your side waiting to embrace you in His loving arms. He loves you unconditionally.
I will leave you with this verse:
I pray you have a beautiful Easter always remembering that the God of heaven loves you unconditionally.
Such lovely reassurances, Lori. I can put aside my doubts about God’s love for me since it has nothing to do with my efforts to somehow be worthy. God loves me because of who HE is, not because of who I am (1 John 4:10, 19)–Hallelujah!
